Our Journey
I started my career as a petroleum engineer and worked closely with the land department. After 7 years in the oil & gas industry, I had decided to make a switch to Solar Engineering. During my time in the solar industry and also having involved with the land department, I have noticed a disconnect in the values of ‘Offer To Purchase’ and ‘Offer To Lease’ in which developers presented to landowners. In some instances the only offer is an Offer to Lease. Typically, landowners prefer to sell while solar developers prefer to lease, and this is reflected in the offers.
From a solar developer’s perspective, there is a lot of initial capital that goes into these projects and they are heavily funded with debt, so it is preferred to extend payments over a long period of time by leasing the land. A Lease requires less up-front investment while obtaining permits, funding, design, etc. Also, There is also a tax advantage to the lease payments, which are expensed, that is more favorable to the developers. I’ve noticed this disconnect in the values of ‘Offer To Purchase’ and ‘Offer To Lease’ and have started this company to close that gap and present fair offers for the land.I have worked in land for many years in the energy industry.
